The importance of Safety Training for Staff

As life continues to return to normal and more of us are returning to work, rather than working at home, now is a good time to think about whether your staff have the necessary training.

As an employer, while it is likely that you have ensured that your employees have the skills to carry out their primary function and day to day tasks, what about the bigger picture? Would they know which fire extinguisher to use should a fire break out? Do they understand the steps that can and should be taken to reduce the risk of fire? If a colleague was suddenly unwell or injured, would they have the skills to help?

We offer a range of work based training including First Aid Training, (Level 2 and level 3 training), Health and Safety Training (Level 1 and 2 training), Fire Warden Training (ensuring fire safety equipment is up to standard) & Practical Training (teaching people to understand the basics of practical fire safety).

If you are an owner, manager, or director of a business, you should be competent to lead the management of the business safely. You will also need to ensure that your employees are competent when it comes to health and safety.

The benefits of investing in the appropriate training are numerous and include:

  • Reducing the risk of the pain and trauma as well as financial cost of a serious incident.

  • Helping employees to identify potential risks and hazards and have the confidence to be able to raise and help address these.

  • Allowing you to meet your legal duty towards your employees to protect their health and safety.

It is fair to say that training your staff in these areas involves financial investment as well as an investment of time, which may not be perceived as a top priority when juggling the other priorities of your business. However, to look at it another way – in reducing the risk of accident and injury and ensuring a safe workplace you will be protecting your workforce and maintaining productivity and service levels.

Finding the right training is an important part of ensuring that you are meeting these requirements. The aim should be to equip your staff with the knowledge and skills to be able to respond appropriately to a range of situations. Our training is delivered by an experienced team and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

Our Fire Warden Training, for example, is aimed at designated people within your business and provides them with the knowledge to be able to:

  • Ensure that staff and any visitors evacuate the building safely in the event of a fire.

  • Carry out visual inspections to ensure that fire safety equipment is up to standard.

  • Assisting with fire prevention.

  • Assisting in the development of an emergency plan.
